HOW TO BECOME WELL KNOWN as an ACTOR

So, you’re an actor an independent film director. You haven’t had much time on camera, and you’ve just moved to sunny California. You knew some people in your home state, but now your 3000 + miles away.

You acquired a place to live, a job and found a place to get your suit cleaned.

But, you still need to establish yourself as an actor.

Does any of this sound like you?

If so, I am about to give you 4 activities you can do to become known as an actor or director in the entertainment industry.

Volunteer Work – Whether you have years of experience as an actor or if you just recently entered the world of acting, let it be KNOWN that actors need support and inspiration from other actors.

There is no I’ in Actor.

Acting is a performance art and is extroverted by nature.

It’s not a fine art like sculpting, drawing or painting.

Take time today to seek out local theatres, film companies, script writing or acting workshops.

Then ask if they need any volunteers. I remember when I plodded the streets of NYC, they were in need of ushers for stage productions.

Sure, it’s not glamorous, but if you are an aspiring actor, or you moved to a new location, re-establishing yourself as an actor or director demands humility. Besides, have you ever seen the smile of approval found on a person’s face when you say the words, “I’d like to volunteer?” I have.

LOOK Ma! I’m an Extra!

Background Work – Like most background actors, these three aren’t doing it for the money.

It’s for the valuable connections, enjoyment and the love of acting because the money…
Well, the money helps too.

Nonunion extra work typically pays around $143 for a 10-hour day, while SAG-AFTRA actors in large cities make about $170 per day.

Background actors often receive meals as well, although they eat after the union workers.

**Besides, what is more fun, working at your survival job’ or working on a film set, getting paid and meeting some amazing people who just MAY know someone who knows someone who can HELP you get KNOWN!  Believe me, it happens all the time.

MOVING SO SOON?

The BIG 3 or 4 – Don’t get this confused with the car industry. I am talking about the 3 major places you can live or travel to to become KNOWN as an actor or director.

Here are just a few informative videos: CLICK below.

1. New York City

2. Chicago

3. California –

*4. Atlanta Georgia

The videos you just watched? (CLICK on the 4 above) may be informative but are based on INDIVIDUAL’s personal experiences.

So, my advice is, GO and VISIT for YOURSELF. ACTING is a very subjective.  People change from one day to the next.

Still, I want you to CLICK these names above so you can learn who YOU are.

WHO or WHAT do YOU KNOW?

Ever hear, it’s not what you know, it’s who you know?

Well, It’s neither.
“It’s What are you DOING with WHO or WHAT YOU KNOW.”  In this TMI world we live in (too much information) with all its social media, sit on your butt and wait for the phone to ring or email to pop up!

Okay. I ‘m ranting, but isn’t it true?

YOU can have all the information at your fingertips and know many different people in the acting industry but without taking ACTION you’ll just grow more into your chair.

So, here’s what you DO.

Make a LIST of all the people you KNOW. Directors, actors, script writers and people who KNOW people who can CONNECT you to the WHO’s WHO of the acting industry.

THEN take ACTION. You are an actor’ right? Call them up, arrange for a coffee house meeting. Get people together. Get creative! There is a living and breathing world out there in the REAL world. Go visit!

Oh, 1 last thing…

Don’t believe you are the ONLY one who is seeking opportunities in acting.

It’s those who step out of their comfort zones that get the finish line first.

**LOOK at the chart to your right. Where are you currently living?
